hi, i’m currently trying to do the 4 disc mini cooper big brake upgrade with itr calipers on my 93 hatch and i ran into a problem.
The trailing arms i bought are supposedly em1 trailing arms, and the itr rear calipers i have (stamped 9CLP14S) aren’t lining up with the caliper mounting holes on the trailing arm.
( the rear rotors i bought are 10.2 p# br31380)
are they supposed to fit or is there a caliper bracket i could swap the itr calipers onto to make them fit?
maybe there’s a bracket to adapt the calipers to the larger holes?
if not what calipers would fit? and would i need the smaller 9.4 rotor?
Like, how far off? Can you mount the rotor and the caliper bracket at all? Are you using the hubs that came with the trailing arms or did you recycle your drum hubs? Are they RSX/EP3 or ITR 9CLP14S?
Arms are exactly the same. The stub axle on the spindle is different (longer for the five lug hub) but the caliper mounting ears are in the same radial location.
When I originally converted the Sedan to 'R spec' rear discs, I used the Scarebird brackets on my drum spindles and aftermarket reman RSX/EP3 calipers. The rotor was off center in the bracket enough to contact, worse on one side than on the other. I got these .5mm shim rings from McMaster and used them on the spindle to space the hub out until they were centered.
When I converted to disc spindles/hubs and reman actual Type R calipers (which were much higher quality than the previous ones), everything lined up perfectly. So I started trying to figure out why the fit was so whack on the previous setup. I was able to replicate the mis-fit by fitting the rest of the new parts together with the previous Cardone brackets. What I discovered was that the previous calipers were on poor quality reproduction (not remanufactured original) brackets that were not the same dimensions as the oe ones, leading to the misalignment.
When I put 10" EP3 rear rotors on my 94 Civic, I used stock civic rear calipers paired with RSX/EP3 caliper brackets and pads. Just had to sand the thicker pads friction material down a little till the caliper would close over them. Worked great.
I destroyed one pad before I decided I didn't want to participate in that nightmare any time I needed rear brakes. Maybe if I had a bridgeport in my garage. You have more patience than me sir.
This swap is well documented. The combination of parts that OP is trying to use is not the issue. There's something wrong with one of those parts or they have something other than what they think they have.
i’m pretty sure they’re type r calipers
had to cut off the original rta’s, bolts broke on both sides. the “new” rta’s came with new hubs and bearings installed. will try and get a pic of it lined up with the rta holes tomorrow, been at work
it was dark out when i was working on it but im fairly sure that the holes on the caliper are closer together than the ones on the trailing arm… but i guess it’s possible im stupid and just need to wack the dust shield
I don't recall having to do anything to my dust shields on my Integra with the ITR rear calipers and left them all in. At the worst, it was a subtle clearancing.
