98 civic fuel issues
Hey guys recently I bought an ek hatch. I bought it with the intentions of getting it running but thing have being complicated with it since the beginning. I have fixed the issues that were easy to fix. I recently started with one that has me at a lost. I went to put gas and it started to spit it out almost right away. So I decided to replace vent solenoid that is attached to the fuel tank but that didn’t help as it did the same thing again. So I did some research and a lot of comments suggested to replace the filler neck and the hose, so I did that but nothing changed. I’m coming to you guys for more help and maybe get this car to run properly. Thanks for the help and all the input you guys have giving me through out the years.
Here's the affected system / components. With most vehicles, when you "top off" after the gas pump clicks off, this ends up pushing fuel into the vapor canister, or lines, blocking the venting capability. No venting means the air the fuel is displacing cannot escape. It's likely the previous owner has polluted the evap system with fuel, and then charcoal pellets from the canister, blocking the evap lines.
