Default Speed Sensor - OEM or Aftermarket Okay?

Hello fellow Honda-Heads! So it seems like the speed sensor on my '97 del Sol VTEC is going out (speed drops to 0 occasionally). I can get an aftermarket one for like 10/15 bucks while an OEM one will be almost 100.... Anyone care to chime in on their experience with aftermarket ones? I'm usually willing to spend more on OEM parts but maybe not when it's like 7 times more....
Thank you in advance for your input!

Just hope yours isn’t the gauge cluster like in my case. Initially, I replaced the factory VSS with an Aisin unit and that didn’t fix the issue.

If the speedo problem comes and goes... it is unlikely that the VSS itself is the problem. It is more likely either a corroded pin or damaged wire in the VSS plug OR the speedo/gauge cluster is failing.

Thank you for the input guys. I’ll probably replace it with an aftermarket one to see if that fixes it and then look for other possible causes if it is not fixed.

I've used Autozone's Duralast speed sensors when I didn't want to wait for shipping/pay OEM and never had any issues with them.

So literally the opposite of what was suggested and don't do any actual diagnosis. Lol.

My VSS did the same thing, and eventually stopped working.I installed an aftermarket one and am back in business.I do believe the occasional "zero" reading can be from bad solder joints from the Odometer to the circuit board in the cluster. That has been discussed on this forum in the past.

Guys, I appreciate your input and I'm "noting" everything you said. Some people don't troubleshoot / work on cars like others. I like to get the easy / cheap stuff done first (even if that is not the problem). It's $10 and two bolts... much easier than pulling my cluster or checking continuity on certain wires.

Those "fixes" on YouTube don't seem to work on the Del Sol cluster....well most of them from what I've seen. If the speedometer gauge is bad, it's bad. You can replace just that instead of the entire cluster. Look around and you might get lucky. One I picked up from FB was 100K miles. lol

Noted, thank you. Didn't realize you can just replace that portion of the cluster. Do you happen to know if the speedos are the same as the civics?
