Default Saving a 97 dx.

Neighbor bought this car about 5-6 yrs ago with a overheating problem. Rebuilt the motor down across the border. Still overheated so he asked me to check it out head was not flat so I re-did it. Ran great for a yr or so and then they sold it to their son. It was wrecked and very neglected. It has sat in front of my house for about 3-4 yrs, i recently sold my ridgeline so I asked what they were going to do with it. They wanted to sell it, so i offered to check it out. With a new battery it fired right up with a little miss-fire. Well it smogged with flying colors and so I offered them $400...SOLD! Unfortunately had about $700 in back registration and fees.. stupid california. So decided to go all in on it. Have not been in the civic game since maybe 2008 ish. First car was a 94 ex i spent so much time and $ on. Real B16A sir2 imported etc. So much fun hitting 8k rpm and it still pulling.

I work for a collision center and the body and paint guys owed me. Picked up a couple used doors in better shape and got to work. I did most of the heavy work and she got most of her dents smoothed out and a nice coat of morning mist blue metallic. All otuside moldings and plastic received coats of black and all the rubber received a heavy dose of honda shin etsu grease. New belt mouldings from honda for the front and the rears were sourced form overseas. I think I have about $1k worth of clips/screws on my bill. Remade all the door plastics out of 6mill plastic sheeting. Foam rubber seals have been replaced, like the ones under the cowl and ones on the door latches.

Made a custom 2' hitch. It is attached to the rear re-bar and back panel with 4 bolts. It is only for a mountain bike rack. To keep it high and close to the car. My main use for this car is for my mtn bike trips or if i want to take my son on a ride, the wife has a car still.

Wish I took more pictures but it was always during my "free" time at work so i always had limited time.

Currently the outside is pretty much "done". Need to work on the suspension because it is all rotted out. I have on order....

-Front and rear SI brakes/knuckles etc.
-skunk 2 tuner upper control arms
-blox racing rear toe links/camber links
-skunk 2 alpha black rear lower arms
-energy front lower control arm bushings
-Russell stainless brake lines

not sure on coilovers yet...but I think I have settled on Tein FlexZ just from past experience with the company and price etc.

Future plans....

Got the tint done a few days ago. 50 front, 25 rear and 15 back. I added the taller center console and every panel got a scrub brush and dawn dish soap treatment. The interior was pretty clean--ish besides carpet. And top of rear seats are done. Trying to find a company to make seat overs that fit. Going to get new carpet and some floor mats but figured I will wait until my 3 yr old is a little less messy....

The door panels have little bubbles on some parts, going to see if i can inject some glue somehow to keep them from getting bigger.

Center vent panel/radio panel was pretty destroyed. It basically disintegrated when i removed it. Had to use some bondo and epoxy. Was able to design and 3d print some pieces that hold the vents together to go up and down, so thats all functional again.

Waiting on screws for the column cover to come in. But it needs some paint on it and the panel below the column. Gotta talk to my interior guy to see what he recommends to use on interior panels.

Anyone have a link to mudguards that fit? Got two from ebay so far and they are way off!

Interior looks pretty good! Seems like this:
Amazon.com: A-Premium Set of 4PCS Mud Flaps Splash Guards Mudguards Mudflaps with Hardware Kits Accessory Compatible with Honda Civic 1996-2000, 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000, Sedan & Coupe Only, Black, Front and Rear : Automotive Amazon.com: A-Premium Set of 4PCS Mud Flaps Splash Guards Mudguards Mudflaps with Hardware Kits Accessory Compatible with Honda Civic 1996-2000, 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000, Sedan & Coupe Only, Black, Front and Rear : Automotive
mudflap might fit? if you look at the reviews people say it doesn't fit 98-2000, you could also try to find them at a junkyard

But anyways..hopefully the SI Suspension will be delivered tomorrow. And hopefully found someone with some Tein flex Z in stock. Possibly have it all by the weekend!

Yeah, I don't like flamazon either, but I was just seeing if there was one that might fit. Can't wait to see the suspension setup

Well I am pretty bummed. the SI suspension set up came in but it is way worse then the pictures and description showed. I think they were wet when pictures were taken so it looked better. Luckily I was able to get the hub bolts out with some PB blaster and a lot of heat. Not sure I can even save the rear knuckles. Pressed the fronts apart and the bearings were all rusted as well. Such a bummer. Due to my OCD ill need to do all 4 wheels bearings and hubs and rebuild all 4 calipers and have them stripped and probably powder coated.

So unfortunately it will be a little while before suspension work is started. Luckily the e-brake cables are perfect though besides some rust on the brackets. Really wish I went with the fastbrakes kits I had originally planned too. ohwell live and learn

So the rear spindle cleaned up ok but not enough for my liking. So I will toss those up for sale for a couple bucks. Still useable, just needs some powder coating/paint. Oddly found some other ones for sale about a mile from me so I picked those up quickly. After talking to a local powder coater and pricing OEM rebuild parts I Put in a rockauto order for some reman powerstop calipers(unfortunately only available in red) and hubs/bearings/rotors. Luckily had some timken and ntn available. So while I wait for all that to come in I will start painting all the other stuff im keeping..knuckles etc.

Wow, that first set of spindles must have came out of the north east or the mid-west, huh? They don't look too bad after media blasting.

Found out they came from canada. It had ABS sensors. And I learned canada was the only SI that got ABS. So yea. Yea if I did not find the other ones for sale right down the street I would have brought them to my machinist friend to smooth them out and then have them powder coated. But I will list them super cheap and someone else can clean em up.

Well sort of a progress update... stripped the car down last weekend because everything showed up on saturday, so I could put it back together over the week. Unfortunately the rear hub/bearings were wrong and not for a 00 civic si. But for a drum brake civic. And the energy bushing kit I got for the front end was missing a bushing. I thought I had counted them but I guess I did not. I miss being able to walk into a store and get this **** but Hopefully will have replacements before the weekend so I can get it back together over the weekend. Fingers crossed!

Unfortunately could not find some black powder coated calipers, So I got ridiculous bright red. But I got everything situated and painted, cleaned, bushings pressed in etc

Now just to patiently wait for the mail man.......

^%$#&^%#*#*&^#^%#^%#&^#^#&#& So the left rear caliper Ebrake mechanism was really loose compared to the old one and the right side... well I picked up a local caliper to compare and found the issue. Suppose to have a needle bearing pressed in to support the actuator...%$#$&%#&^%#&^%#$&^#%&^. So I have to purchase another kit from rockauto and play the waiting game again. Just cementing the disdain for ordering online. Can call anyone or try to get faster shipping.

Hopefully my front bushings show up today so maybe I can get the front done over the weekend. Wish me luck,

Well it is back together. Mostly alighned. Had my coworker do 1 degree cam front and half rear..think ill go 1.5 front and 1 rear..maybe more. well see. It is not a daily driver but more then likely 2-3 times a week. Was rubbing really badly in the rear. So i borrowed a amazon special bead roller and messed it all up. Going to pick up a eastwood bead roller and try again. or modify the amazon one to work/fit better. But at recommended setting on the flex z's it rides pretty good. Wife didnt complain too much this morning on the commute.

Brakes are way soft so I picked up a 15/16 master cylinder and then i will pressure bleed them and hope for a hard pedal.

Popped the spec d foglights on and not sure im liking the yellow...i should have gotten clear.

Now to decided on what kind of lip to go with. Probably SiR.

It's really looking great and it probably drives a hell of a lot better with the new suspension and brakes.. I'm jealous of the paint.

Thanks! The passenger side is near perfect but the drivers side with the aftermarket fender is... Far from. So I added some soft rubber seals to the edge of all of them to fill it in a little and to keep the plastic from rubbing on the paint. Looks OK. Someday I'll fiddle with the rocker mldng and fender fitment. But for about $30 they are pretty good. I'll post the link soon.

Thank you! And o man worlds better. Took it up to idyllwild with my son and it was great. So dang slow though lol. It will rub in a tight turn that has a good bump in it. But not too bad. And I put the 15/16 master in and the brakes are so good. But I think with the stock proportion valve the rears aren't releasing quickly if I brake hard then hit gas. Feels like Ebrake is on for a second.

So ordered a brand new Si one from Japan so we will see if it's true. Kabuki motors. Def will power bleed them after that and see what happens.

No real update. Just been commuting with it every other day. Finally after the 3rd canceled order my overnight parts from japan showed up. Looks legit so we will see if it makes a difference.

I am trying to remember how I came about learning about JDI. Don't think it was an ad but it might have been. But after a little research I picked up their ghost key kit w/kill switch. Really rad little kit and will add just another door to break down to steal the car. Gotta remove the start button to final mount it but gotta figure out what to do with the steering column cover. either paint or find some new ones or does anyone know if any other car fits in here? Like an integra or something that is already black. Previous owners were apparently drunk everytime they tried starting it haha

Wired the fog lights up with the aftermarket switch. Gotta find a pigtail for the OEM switch somewhere. They are a little dim but havent had much time to try at night. Will look into LED retrofit kit.

Got my sir replica lip in ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/220984320312 ) it came in a IKON motorsports box, but does not look like the one from their website...this one is a actual replica with OEM mounting points. So was kinda stoked on that. So i ordered the below hardware from honda and it bolted right up and fits almost perfectly. I will finesse it when I remove and paint it. I can shift it slightly to lessen the end gaps.
I think 10 of each...

90111-sm4-003

90305-SH3-000

But cruised to a off road show this weekend in costa mesa and got a few compliments from the giant lifted truck bro's so that was cool. haha

Looks great!
how many of the second part (90305-SH3-000) did you need? I wouldn’t expect to need more than a couple..?
