Default Setting a D series axle seal

Looks like there is no lip for the axle seals to set into as a "stop." Considering that, is it a problem if the seal is hammered in out of round or too deep?

Too deep can definitely be a problem. Install the seal flush with the outer machined surface of the seal opening and you will be good to go.
