Honda issues.
1995 Honda accord 5 SPD manual 2.2 L engine.
I have replaced the following:
distributor cap, rotor, wires, plugs, cleaned IAC valve, throttle body, new cat converter, air filter, and idk what the problem is. The misfire is intermittent. It happens completely randomly. No check engine light. The car like surges in and out of power. I can’t tell if it’s a gas problem or an electrical problem. I was thinking fuel filter but, I’m just not sure. I’ve tried mechanic after mechanic and none will actually DRIVE the car to see what I’m saying. They just pop the hood and listen to it.
anyway, when it’s not misfiring the car engine Reva smoothly and beautifully. Then suddenly it’ll misfire and be all boggy. It then idles in a puttering sound like (bug bug bug bug bug…). When it does this, you can feel the lack of power in the gas pedal. But as you get faster in higher gears, it still pulls, but you can tell it’s struggling the pull. Like, the engine HAS power but it’s being held back. Then completely randomly, it just POPS into power! Then shortly after, it repeats. I am attaching a video of the car when it’s idling fine and when it’s not. Hopefully someone can help me? Pay attention to the sound. Thanks.

Fuel filter is cheap though, worth changing it anyway.
Have you compression tested? Sounds to me like it COULD be a failing head gasket. Any coolant or oil loss?

I will change fuel filter this weekend and check back. It needs an oil change. Last time it did this real bad the oil pressure was low. But I didn’t see why it would cause it to do this. When I changed the oil and filled it, it ran beautiful for a long time. Maybe a month or two. Then it started again, intermittently. It did have oil loss from distributor gasket when I bought it. I changed it after about a month. No more oil loss etc. no fluid leaks. Car almost flawless. Just this issue.
so I changed the oil, but no improvement. Changed the fuel filter, no change.
when I changed the distributor cap, several months ago, it was leaking bad oil from there. New rotor, cap, wires, plugs, and boom the car ran fine for a little while, then it seemed like it looses power randomly/intermittently. It will do it while idle, or driving. You can feel the loss of power in the gas pedal, but the car will still run fine. Like it’s on 3 cylinders. The thing about it is, you can feel it randomly pop in and out of power. It FEELS electrical. Like it has a shortage or something. Before I changed the Distributor cap, a guy told me “sounds like coil pack”. I changed everything except the ignition coil. On my car, it’s external, located outside the distributor cap. I can’t find any videos on how to change it. And when I go to auto parts store, they can’t find the one I have. It’s driving me crazy because sometimes the car. Runs beautifully. Then other times it’s sluggish. It can happen for a second or, happen for a few days, in either direction, smooth running, or bad. It’s really annoying because it makes it tough to pull uphill outta first gear. But once I’m in 3rd and up the car feels like it’s running great. Anyone else have these problems? Or have a hint of an idea?
