Bad 1991 CRX Si ICU: Can it be repaired, or not worth the effort?
Hello,
I'm looking for knowledge from anyone on this forum who has had a bad ICU that they were able to repair on their own (i.e. replacing all or the particular defective capacitors on the circuit board). Is it worth the effort, or should I just try to find another replacement unit?
The part I have is: 38600-SH3-A111-M1 Type B
From what I have learned, the burnt circuit board is a common problem on these units due to age and being stuck in a [under dashboard] heat trap. My particular issue is that the dashboard brake light stays on when driving. Brake fluid filler cap & parking brake switch tested OK, so they are not the issue, so the only logical issue would be the ICU that's the problem.
If someone has knowledge & experience they can share with me about refurbishing the ICU, I would appreciate it...stuff like where you acquired the replacement capacitor parts, the specific part numbers, etc. I'm try to weigh the pros and cons of repairing the ICU, or just forget it and acquire a replacement unit somehow someway. Thanks for any helpful responses.
