Default High mount break light

Hello everyone I have a 06 Honda Accord EX sedan. My high mount break light (aka 3rd break light on the trunk) was burned out. I couldn't find one anywhere in town so I went onto Ebay, I did a exact match for my vehicle and the one it showed is not OEM. So this aftermarket break light is a guarantee to fit part based on my cars specs. The only difference is the light has a chrome border which I thought was nice and since my car has lots of chrome, I opted for this light. Today I got it and I opened the box and it is indeed nice, however my original break light had a box that connected it at the end of the wires to the wiring in the car.

The new one is 2 exposed wires, one black wire and one red wire. The origional one had 2 red wires, one solid red and one red with a white line going through it. Well my neighbor decided to cut the box off at the end of the wires to splice and connect to the new break light so it would connect directly onto the wires coming out of the vehicle, now my vehicle won't shift out of park unless I stick the key into the shifter to adjust it manually.

I'm saying it's obviously not detecting the breaks are engaged, therefore it won't shift out of park. Has anyone ever experienced this issue? Any ideas on what's going on, pointers or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Katrina

Probably caused a short and blew the under-hood Fuse No. 13 (20A).
