Icon5 Clock Can’t Keep Correct Time

2016 CR-V Ex. All of a sudden the clock won’t keep correct time. No matter what I set it to, it revers to 12:00 December 31, 2013. Never had an issue before and am perplexed. I’m thinking this started after I got a strange message a couple weeks ago. I started the car and got a message saying the head unit, or something in it, had lost power and had me hold a button to restart/reset it. Sorry, I forgot the exact message.

Any thoughts on what the issue is and how to resolve it?

Thanks

So I went to Honda today and they said it’s a known problem, but the first guy said he thought it fixed after 2014. Another service rep said it’s still an issue and it had something to do with satellite connections, it cannot be fixed, and it will always read Dec. 31st, 2013. They did a factory restart, it appeared to be fixed. But later in the day it came back.

i find it hard to believe that Honda doesn’t have a fix for this. Anyone out there have information on this?

Thanks

Long long ago, in a time called the 90's
when your clock constantly reset, that
meant that your ecu/ecm back up fuse
was blown and it needed to be replaced.

Its under the hood on older cars. If it was
the cause, I would think that Honda would
know. So its probably not the problem, but
if you're bored, you might check that fuse.

Thanks for the info. the only thing I found was a fuse labeled ASV ECU. Of course the CR-V manual has nothing about ECU. From what I googled on ASV and ECU I get the impression there would be no correlation to my problem. Plus, the clock does run, just not in the correct time. I never noticed the date before, but sometimes it will change to Jan 1 2013. Extremely weird!

It's a known issue. Devs didn't give a big enough variable for the date.

It's like a y2k bug but 2024.

It's more than just the CR-V. It's nearly every Honda nav unit from 2004-2015.

That is crazy that Honda cannot resolve this problem. However, mine is 2016. Wondering if that means the issue is worse than they admit.

That is mind blowing to me. Long ago in my programming classes, pre Y2K, we studied about how to resolve date issues. The 1999-2000 roll over, UNIX's time in seconds since 1/1/1970 rolling over, and variables holding values too small to handle such times. But to have an issue like this from a company like Honda just 4 years after, or even 16 years later is really perplexing. My school was not all that great, but we still covered that info. How did Honda engineers miss it?

Totally agree with you. Not to excuse Honda, but I imagine the head units are made by someone else and they are the ones to blame.

Well, I found out the issue was kinda self-induced.The car did not have CarPlay, I downloaded a file that installed it. However, It created strange speed indications with programs like WAZE. To correct this I had to unplug the GPS cable. The time & date were fine, except for a minute or two corrections every few months. I attributed this to it not getting updates from the GPS. It seems whatever happened when I got the strange message about the audio unit losing power, the clock also lost power. When I reset the unit it had no clock signal to sync to, so it defaulted to something like the date the software was built, and could not be corrected. I pulled the head unit, plugged the GPS back in, was able to set the time, and the GPS gave it the correct date. I also noticed it doesn't seem to have the reported speed issue with WAZE, so I'll leave it in.

Quit the adventure. I feel bad about blaming Honda, sorry. But all seems well now. Thanks for listening to me complain.

Hi everybody. I used to have the problem but I know now how to fix it! The radio has a secret menu where you can change the hour. I leave you the link
