2013 CRV mystery noise after timing chain and tensioner replacement
Ok, let's start with the fact that I worked in the engine plant at HCM from day 1 until retirement and have probably installed a couple thousand or more chains and related parts during my tenure in engine repair. I also do them in my shop. I don't know if this noise was present before I changed the sloppy chain and tensioner as I only drove it in and out of the shop. Customer called me the next morning and said it had a noise. Here's the noise. Note it remains with the engine off, coasting in neutral. Comes on around 60 kph +/- and is inaudible over 70ish. Appears to be right front. I have checked for dropped items that I may have dropped (nothings missing), serviced the brakes, and installed a new wheel bearing just to eliminate the remote possibility that it's a wheel bearing noise I haven't heard over my 42 years in the trade. Anyone heard this one? Apparently my movie didn't attach to the post. Best description is a howl like metal on metal

Most likely its not something you caused. Thats a bad thing about working on peoples cars they want a free fix of some other existing problems. Things that come to mind are CV's and there is that bearing that mounts on the engine for the stub shaft if memory serves here.
So you say the noise is still there with engine not rotating? I guess you can prove to the owner that it is not something you worked on that is the cause then. Make sure something didn't fly up off the road onto any of the shafting and get stuck under the car, front middle and rear if 4WD.

I wish I could get the video to load, might save someone the hours of bs I went through to find out that the hangar bearing in the driveshaft was shot. No way that manifested overnight after I replaced the chain and tensioner. Odd that the noise definitely appeared to be coming from the right front and not under my *** when I was driving it. I still have the vehicle, they refused the driveshaft, going to do it himself he says. Now I have to figure out how many hours I have in the diagnosis. Nothing is free.
I would like to post a short video of this noise but I'm having no luck. Even if it saves one guy the time I spent on this thing it'd be worth it.
You could type in the address for the video? Go join up at the CRV forum and post it there. Yeah paste does not work here does it?
