EX Cluster in DX CEL stays on, Why?
Hi Everyone,
I have a 1992 Honda Civic Hatchback DX and I recently swapped in a cluster from a EX/LX (not sure which one bought on ebay). I noticed once I did that, the CEL would stay on with the EX/LX cluster but not when I used my DX cluster. My DX cluster CEL operates normally including have the CEL on when the fuel pump primes and turns off once its done priming. The EX/LX cluster stays on no matter what. I swapped them simultaneously and the DX cluster did not have the CEL on. I have not gotten the code yet and will be doing that next. Anyone else experience this or have any other suggestions I could test out? Could it be the difference in mileage or the fact that the DX ecu is a P06?

It sounds like a problem with the gauge cluster itself... the CEL doesn't know what ECU is connected to the car. Do you have access to another cluster to test and see if it works just like your original DX cluster ?
Unfortunately, not at the moment. I think I will buy another and wait to test. I still have a return period on the other cluster (the one showing the CEL). I will update when new info comes up.
Update 03/15/2024: I took a closer look at the Cluster and I noticed the CEL attempt to turn off after the fuel pump primed. I took the cluster out and it had all LED's. I took the CEL led out and replaced it with a normal bulb and bam it worked. I guess the LED was receiving some type of current even went it tried shutting off enough to light up still. As of now, I am in the clear. Thanks to all who inputted.
