I have had an issue with the IACV and the vehicle surging at idle. I cleaned it very well and put it back on to have it do the same thing but at a lesser extent. I then took off the air intake hose from the throttle body and put my finger over the air supply port while it was surging. That stopped it and the idle slowed down and once I unplugged the port it idles normal. That is until you blip the throttle and it starts up all over again.
I would like to know the procedure to checking this IACV. It has an electronic input so there must be readings I could take to determine if it is functioning ok.
After a LOT of searching and video watching I went over this thing. Not much to do as it only has two pins. A test with a 12v battery confirmed it was working. Taking it apart is next to impossible so I just cleaned it extremely well pushing the valve with a small dull screw driver. I then blew it out with an air compressor. Took off the coolant plate and cleaned up some of the goop in there. I made a new Oring gasket out of two and put it back on the CRV. Works great.
Spoke too soon! Drove it to work and home, all fine, then another trip of 70km in the city where it was turned off 5x and started 6. ran great till I got home and then the surging started again. This time I thought it has to be a vacuum leak from another location. But I figured to try the ‚finger over the IACV fresh air port test‘ first. Then the idea came to me to just unplug the damn thing. Instantly stopped. Buying a new one now.
