Default D to B swap no crank

Hello all, I have come here to see if Im doing something wrong or have the wrong starter. I have a Lsv build completed and ready for first start up. 1998 civic CX body/Manual and I have verified the starter works and is getting a 12+ signal to small wire that connects to it when turning key to start. 12+ is connected to the 12mm bolt on top of the starter and is good, ground is good. I can hear the fuel pump come on when turning the key to start just get no cranking. I pulled the starter as it's brand new and when I apply 12+ the wire it pops out like it should and when I apply 12+ to the bottom connection it spins. I guess im not understanding how it gets both spinning and pops out to reach the flywheel. Does the heavy gauge 12+ 12mm send power to the motor to spin it when the 12+ is applied to small wire? I ask because when I put 12+ to the bottom 12mm it spins.

If I jump 12+ from the 12mm in the pic to the small wire it should pop out and spin correct?

Please delete post. The battery is in the rear of the car and grounding is the issue. Thanks
