Bad Starter?
I just purchased a 2006 Acura TSX with 186000 miles. Well kept. Single owner. Owner tells me his thinks the battery is going bad and I think that was based on observing the weak start. And it does have a very weak, sluggish start.
After purchasing, I had the battery tested at Advance Auto. They said the battery looks fine (green), alternator looks fine (green), but the starter seemed "off" (and their little device marked it as "yellow")... "but that could just be from a weak battery" he said. He then said "drive it for a few miles to charge and see how it goes."
Well, I took it, put it on the battery charger and initial reading showed it was 65% charged, so something is definitely off. How can it be only 65% charged after driving it around? So I let it charge for a couple hours until it was 100%. DMM reading showed 12.8 at that point. And with a fully charged battery, I started the car... but yet again, very sluggish weak start.
Immediately I drove the car for 30min. Came back to the house. Checked the battery with DMM and it dropped from 12.2.
I read that a starter thats going bad will tend to draw a lot from amps than normal and that's what could be causing the battery to drain.
I wanted to post for feedbacks before I moved forward with a starter replacement. TIA.
