Default No clue what to do. Need help pls

Hello, this is my first post and first Honda. I bought a 1997 dx hatch for a commuter. It came with a b16a motor and the tranny is a b16a dohc vtec. The motor is a usdm and properly mounted. Everything else is completely stock. HOWEVER…..

when in idle it acts fine, but then a couple minutes later idle will drop, intake will suck in and catch itself (Sometimes it dies). Driving it, it runs HORRIBLE. First gear fine, shift to 2nd and back on the gas the engine slams HARD. (I can tell because I can see the shifter go back and forth). 3rd 4th under full wot it completely hesitates and dies as if it ran out off gas. I can’t tell if it’s when vtec kicks in or not. I tested the spark, alternator, dizzy, fuel injectors etc. everything is good. I bought a obd reader and can couldn’t connect to civic. Figured out it’s obd1 to obd2. Also, Cel only comes on when it hesitates, then goes away. The dude I bought it from said only thing it needs done is the tune. Cool, simple, not that bad right? So I pulled the ecu out and it is a p75 for an automatic tranny… I opened it up, did my research and found out p75 is for non vtec. It was chipped with an sst and guessing it’s a basemap.. for which car?? Idk.

does anyone have any inputs on this? Your guesses are good as mine and need the help (I know I bought a shitbox etc.)I just need a cheap reliable car for 2 years, my commute is 140miles a day and not trying to rack up miles on the family car.

i am assuming it’s not the right chip, and the fueling is wrong. I’m also guessing the auto tranny is adjusting the fuel when shifting.. idk

I bought a ecu chip from Phearable for a stock Oem map. Hopefully, this does the trick and I can happily commute.

thank you!
