HRV II grinding sound starts
Hello,
my HRV bought in 2017 (CVT) here in the Czech Republic from the beginning shows one super annoying flaw. During cold starts, occasionally (about 1 in every 5 to 10 occurs) there is a profound grinding sound for about 1-2 secs. The sound is very similar to the one that you'll hear when trying to change gear with classical manual gearbox without pressing the clutch pedal first, that is teeth of the gearbox grinding against each other. Needless to say, this kind of sound always sound worrying and there's no place for it in any car. Certainly not in this top version of HRV with the money I paid.
Only recently my local dealer here in Ostrava, Czech Republic, was able to give me some update of the problem. According to them, only relatively recently Honda identified the problem and proposed a solution. Since I am in 7years extended warranty period, Honda is offering paying for the parts, but I am required to pay for the work (about 5000CZK, which is about $250USD).
Now, to me this is a design issue, even Honda admits it happens on a range of HRVs. Yet, they say it is not that serious they'd feel obliged to pay for the fix fully. Repeatedly I asked Honda Czech Republic to pay fully for the repair. They always declined.
Now, if Honda says listening to grinding sounds during car start is ok with them, this is not the Honda I used to know. And this is my 4th Honda BTW.
I never heard such noises on any cars ever, and I owned a few cars older than 10 years before.
Any experience with such issue?
Best,
David
