So I have a 98 Honda prelude that I keep having issues with. I just replaced the fuel pump and filter. Car was running rich but was doing great for three weeks. The other day my check engine light came on but I can't scan the car cause of someone stealing my original ECU out of the car. I have an OBD2 out of a Honda Civic. Does anyone know of a way to check the engine light code? The only way I've been able to get the car to start is with starter fluid yet the car keeps idling up and down very fast.

 

I could be wrong but I don't think a civic ecu will work on a prelude, It's a totally different engine and the fuel maps might be way off. I would recommend you get the correct ECU before trying to fix things. You might find one at a junk yard or on ebay.

40 bucks used on ebay, just make sure you get the right one, I don;t know how to match them up but someone might be able to chime in and let you know what the correct part number ecu for your car is.
