Default Eg8 sedan battery shorted new battery negative lead sparks bad when trying to connect

I have a 95 eg ex 5 spd with abs my battery shorted I went to replace it and my negative lead has a bad spark and melts the lead off the terminal I replaced the negative lead and the ground front the tranny to the chaisis I replaced the terminals for the positive lead the ones that go to both fuse boxes and I still have the same problem I've looked over the charge harness and it doesn't seem to be shorting out can anyone please help

Make sure you don't have a bolt or something metal touching the starter power terminal.

And check all the fuses

Are you confident that YOU are connecting the polarity correctly? Did you accidentally replace the battery with a group 51 instead of a 51R?
