Hello,
I recently became in charge of the cars and mechanics on a 24 hours of Lemons team. I know a lot about cars but not Honda's specifically. We have a '85 carburatored manual trans car. In our last race at Barber we changed the head gasket twice and water pump once but still over heated and seized the engine due to (I believe) a clogged radiator. (Only supposed to use water on track and they rust up pretty badly. )
Rather than putting the same.thimg back in, we would of course like to add some ponies. The car handles great but tops out too soon on straights. I found a B16A3 with trans and computer from a 95 Del Sol on FB for $1,500. I've done a lot of mechanics and actually have a '64 AMC Rambler with a 2JZ that I have done all the work on. For racing though, we need as few custom parts as possible and I'd rather not do any real engineering to make this fit. After a quick perusal of this forum it sounds like it would fit in pretty easily but likely require some different hubs. I'm not too worried about engine mounts and probably not as worried as I should be about electrical hookup but it seems like axles / hubs and getting the gear shifter to work could be the most work. Is there anybody who has done this and documented it on a thread or a YouTube channel? Would this be a decently reliable setup to take a beating in road race conditions?
Just looked around some more and there clearly are some build / swap threads I need to dig into. Happy to hear your opinions on using this setup for endurance racing and what concerns you would have.
