Hi I have a 99 CR-V B20 4wd i just bought. I've been a Honda advocate for a long time, done swaps, rebuilds, testing, yet i am stumped on this CR-V issue. Here is the problem: The engine cranks, very unpowerful, but not bad enough to be worried. Hondas can start up on a half turn bump start. I smell gas, not sure how long the gas has been, but i did drive it home and did not act like bad gas. Well it acts like no spark, yet I changed the following: plugs, wire, cap, rotor and checked the coil for repeat spark, it alternates. Background on why I bought it. I wanted this CR-V for the gen, style, easy fix, engine comparison, body comparison, and simply a rugged beater. When I bought it, the prev owner says it will need a new engine, but I doubted that. After some research of the symptoms: revs high to shift, grinding in gears, overheating trans, no power. I made a high probability it was a bad torque converter. Replaced that and checked the trans for bad gears when it was out, all good. Put it back in, hooked every thing back up, so I gave it a test fire. It started up good, but ran like it was out of timing. So I thought the distro was backwards, turned it around, did not fire, turned it back again yet this time did not start. At this point I brought out my multimeter and ran the ohms and volts test. wire came back not so good so I did a wires, plugs, rotor, & cap replacement thinking it is a good probable cause for bad fire when I did not change any timing. So far, bat has +13v, fuel pump good, main relay clicks on and off normally, no metal flakes in oils, and even cleaned out the idol control valve & throttle body.

I'm looking for real conversations here, not "did you check the ground," even though I'm sure there is some tomcat who will ask. I'm really needing a save here.
