Chirping noise from engine at idle
Hello everyone. Recently I've had an issue pop up with my 2023 honda CRV 1.5T. When idling there will sometimes be a slight chirping sound that seems to be coming from the belt. It doesn't happen all the time but it usually happens when I travel at low speeds then come to an idle. Just wondering what you all think it could be.
it's a pulley bearing of some kind. Could be anything on the accessory line or even the water pump. Take the belt off and see if it still makes the noise. If it does, it's the water pump. Spin the accessories by hand and find the squeak.
Start the car with no load. Then turn on every electric drain... headlights, brake lights, heater fan (but not AC, that is a different belt) and see if the chirp increases. If it does, it is the alternator belt that is slipping under load. When you start a car, it draws more electricity from the battery. The alternator kicks in to recharge the battery, placing load on it. The alternator is driven by the engine, using belts. If the belt is loose or lacks friction, it can produce a sound... the chirp.
