Just changed the starter on an '08 CRV and now the engine spins over but sounds like this.

It will chuff back through the intake randomly while spinning over as well. I found that I can get it to finally start if I hold the throttle about 1/2 open. It's throwing no codes.

Car ran fine until I changed the starter. I did remove the upper plenum to get to the back starter bolt. I also broke the plug off the knock sensor trying to get the back bolt... before removing the plenum. I replaced it.

Any ideas? It almost sound out of time, but when it starts it runs perfectly.

 

That skip in the cranking sounds like a cylinder has lost compression.

 

It was the new starter....

Did not sound like a bad starter to me, but it was.

 

Simple solution DON'T FOOL WITH THE INTAKE TO CHANGE THE STARTER.
Watch the youtube A1 auto video of how to do the job.
The problem is you messed something up fooling with removing stuff to take off the intake manifold.
It could be a ruined hose vac leak etc. it could be a wire that broke.
