I am replacing the power steering pump on my 2002 due to a very loud bearing noise. When I went to do so however, I discovered that the outlet on the pump where the return hose connects is in a completely different place than on the original.
I actually have 2 replacement pumps (long story) - both are OEM and both differ from what is on the engine presently. I am not the original owner of this car, so I can't say for sure that what is on there now is factory original.
I'm fairly certain the return hose has enough reach to connect to the replacement pump. This really puzzles me, as the return is on the complete other half of the pump. It's not a simple case of an outlet facing a different direction or something.
Have any of you guys run into this?

I was going to do the same thing - reroute the hose. But in one direction is was too close to the belt pulley. And in the other direction it tended to collapse upon itself.
The pump I got is from another car. (I preferred to rebuild an OEM pump rather than roll the dice with an aftermarket pump) So I went back to the junkyard where I got this pump and grabbed the correct return hose. Problem solved - for my case anyway.
