Default 2004 Accord 2DR EX V6- my THIRD power steering pump!

Hey everyone, I need some advice. I just had my third power steering pump replaced because of a loud whine coming from it while driving and idling, also it moans (?) when I turn the wheel. Steering fluid is clear, I put an additive in it recommended by the guys at Napa, to no avail. Now, I've been told by a friend that it could be the pulley bearings, however, that doesn't make any sense as to why it is moaning when I turn the wheel. I'm truly afraid it is the gear box, and it may cost me triple what it was to have the pump replaced. Any suggestions? (by the way, I'm refusing at this point to go to the dealership, they really screwed me over on my last visit there)

if the problem was happening under warranty, Honda should pick up the tab, call HOA and explain the situation..........what is the milage and date you brought the car home?

Hmm.. Power Steering Pump noise huh?.. Well for starters, you should've never put any additives in it. I wouldn't listen to those Napa guys, there's a difference between a parts salesman and professional technician.

Anyways, I haven't really had any noise from the pump myself. Are you sure it's just low on fluid because of a leak? But yeah, if your power steering pump was truly making noise due to contamination from a failing pump, you should've replaced the pump along with the reservoir and rubber lines. Failure to due that can pull the debris that's stuck in those lines into the new pump and cause it to fail. And you're suppose to flush the system too.

But good luck trying to get Honda to pay for it. They usually only pick up the bill if it hasn't been messed with, in your case the additive. Hmm, I wonder.. Third pump?.. Were they all OEM?

I would still give Honda of America a call though, maybe you could get some help in the situation.

No, both of the pumps were remanufactured parts from Napa. And the car isn't under warrenty anymore, so Honda wouldn't have paid for it anyway. I ended up taking the car in yesterday to a guy in town who told me that the lines looked good so it was probably ok. Do you think it is too late to flush it again or try to fenaggle the guys at Napa into giving me another pump?

Uhhh... don't honda's take special PS fluid? try flushing out all that old fluid and using OEM Honda fluid. Even with the NAPA pump.

I've noticed that this part is being replaced on the 04+ TL's. they might share the same pump. If that is the case the pump is on back order till the 2nd of december.

Also never put anyting into your power steering besides Honda power steering fluid. This is one of those parts that can be ruined if you dont use Honda specific fluid, trust me.

Third, if you had a bad experience at a dealer go to the other one. ANd tell them you had a shitty time at there rival and im sure they'll take care of you.

When you replaced the pump the first and second time, did the noise go away? I am haveing the same problem with my 04 accord V6. I just replaced the pump (oem) and the noise is still there, fulid is still dirty.

There is a TSB on this (07-086). It says that the o-ring on the inlet pipe connection allows air to enter the system, causing a moan or whine. Since the dealerships probably have a lot of experience with this problem, they are probably better at solving the issue.
