I have a 2003 Pilot that has a blinking "d" indicating transmission problems - I suspect the clutch 3 or 4 pressure sensors but need to read the codes to see if it is P0845 or a P1740 to determine which pressure switch to replace - all the code readers that I have found only read the engine codes. I was hoping to find a software one that uses one of the OBD II bluetooth devices but can't find one of the stand alone hand helds that clearly states that it reads transmission DTC's - the local dealers charge $170 for reading the codes and "diagnosing" the issue
Re: recommended code reader for transmission DTC's
Looks like a science project. Maybe I am in the wrong forum. After buying this do I hook it up to laptop or a programmer that tells me how to download the file? What else is involved with using this to read codes? Laptop ? what software would I require?
Re: recommended code reader for transmission DTC's
What do you mean, a science project? I provided a link to the interface that's needed to connect to the OBD II port, the other end gets connected to your laptop via USB. The software you need is in the second link provided. This is the software the dealership uses. All you have to do is follow along in the software and it's fairly simple to use.
Re: recommended code reader for transmission DTC's
Thanks for the explaination. I see what you're saying now. If your interested I will hook up my TopDon ArtiDiag600 S to my 2018 Odyssey and take some screenshots of the transmission. Post them on here and you can tell me if it's similiar to the tool the dealerships use? Mine is not bi-directional but just reads voltages, PID, and other unidirectional values. i'll try to do this later or tommorrow. Will you look the screenshots over for me?
Re: recommended code reader for transmission DTC's
I took a bunch of screenshots. I hope it's not overwhelming for this forum.
I looked around the internet trying to find a website where I could learn more about how to analyze and understand the different abbreviations in these scanners. I'm sure there is a basic nomenclature used but sure each mfg. might have a slightly different name.
Are you aware of any websites where I could do some deeper studying to learn how to use a code reader for troubleshooting? I'm not talking about how to hook it up and clear codes and see that my gas cap wasn't put on tight. I'm talking about something where it
explains the basic terminology and going from there.
