Default Distributer horrible misfire, vtec vs non vtec distributer

solved:: I am an idiot and totally overlooked that rotating the distributer changes timing. I had it very far off, God I’ve spent too many hours on this swap that I’m going crazy

Hello, first time post so sorry for bad format or incorrect forum.

I just finished up my engine swap, b18b integra ls obd2 into 1999 civic with hondata s300. I can’t get the engine to start. First I tried with the original b18b distributer and nothing. So I tested it for spark and there was none. So I decided to switch it out for my spare disturber from my b16a. I know vtec and non vtec dizzy have different bolt patterns, but I made it work awkwardly with only one bolt in just to test and see if the car starts.

Now when I turn it over, the car makes horrible loud popping / banging noises while cranking, and does not seem like it’s even close to starting. When I pull the plug wires it stops so I’m pretty sure it’s timing related.

I’ve just never heard anything like this sound before. It’s very loud and violent, so much so that it scares me to turn the motor over. Only other factor is my fuel has been sitting in the tank for at least 8-10 months.

I’ve tried looking through forums but can’t find anything like this and I’ve tried to find out if vtec and non vtec distributors are internally different, but can’t get a straight answer. maybe that’s my issue or if they have a different firing order or something. Both dizzy are obd2. I’ve triple checked my firing order too.

any input is greatly appreciated!
