1987 Honda Civic Si Turn Signal Switch Broken
Hi all, new member here!
I'm looking to either repair or replace the turn signal stalk on my (new to me) 87 Civic Si. I bought it recently and the stalk seemed a bit loose. The stalk has some play and is able to turn the lights on/off by rotating it vertically, independent of whether the switch at the end of it is turned to the off, parking lights, or on position. The first time I started it at night, I noticed the light indicator was lit up blue and that the high beams appeared to be on when I turned the switch to the on position. I followed the manual and gently pulled the stalk towards me to turn the high beams off, but a small piece of plastic snapped off lol. Now the stalk is a bit looser and is unable to switch the high beams. Whoops.
Looks to me like the plastic piece that holds the stalk in place and likely keeps it sturdy is worn, cracked, and obviously now missing a chunk. Was wondering if anyone knows how I can get to the stalk and if this could potentially be a JB weld fix, or if there is anywhere I can source a replacement part/stalk! I know you can remove the steering wheel by popping off the Honda emblem, but just want to be cautious and make sure I have an idea of what I'm doing before I dig in there lmao.

you can try to glue it back using a slurry mix of acetone and chips of abs plastic, let the acetone melt the abs chips, it takes a little time, stir with a toothpick or similar. When you have a gel you can paste the gelly around the missing piece with the toothpick dabbing the damage area.... not too sure where your stalk is busted... you may need to put a chopstick or some wooden sticks to hold the stalk to the same position with tape until the repair is complete, ready to use within hours depending on how hot is the weather. The acetone tends to evaporate really fast, so do it on a colder day or away from high temperature.
