Default Anyone else have to replace their Fuel Injectors?

Just wondering. I had to replace my 18 accord 1.5t fuel injectors two months ago with my mileage at 90k. I replaced them myself and noticed a lot of oil contamination/film covered in the intake manifold and carbon built up in the cylinders from that oil. My local Honda dealership mechanic told me this engine eats fuel injectors at early stages of ownership which added to the fuel emulsion issue of greater than 5% doesn't make me very happy to say the least.

Honda's fuel injector is very reliable. My 2000 Honda still using original injector, which is 23 year old.. 2018 injector is just an electronic valve control, which is same principle like 2000 fuel injector, but high pressure.

Mechanic explanation that the engine "eats" fuel injectors doesn't make sense to me. If he said it clogged by carbon, then scrap or soak it in paint thinner. As long as it is spraying, with the carbon scrap off, then no need to change.

Your finding of carbon build in in air intake system is common for any direct injector car, including 2018 1.5T engine. Performs periodic intake cleaning by spraying carbon removal into the intake system. I don't recommend intake valve cleaner, as they use complex chemical that are often not environment friendly. In addition, they are expansive, e.g. $20 - $70.

Oil paint thinner are strong carbon removal, if you looking for cheap product. I used acetone for thick layer of carbon instead of $20-$30 fuel injector cleaner like CRC intake valve cleaner GDI IVD (popular in YouTube), or Berryman B-12 Chemtool.(most effective and safer)

BMW, Benz, Audi community often use walnut blasting, which is environment friendly. Manually clean it with wire brush is even more environment friendly

If you are looking for preventive (carbon build up in intake), then looks for oil catch can installation. The cons is that you have to clean up the oil in the can monthly (depends how quick it fills up)

new direct injection ones are not reliable we are replacing them left and right at our dealership 4 and 6 cylinders and to get even better they are not covered under powertrain so no warranty past 3/36

Your 23 year old injectors aren't subject to the high heat and combustion pressure that new injectors are.

Unfortunately direct injection injectors are not very reliable in any vehicle. I replaced two injectors in my BMW under warranty and two more just after warranty expired. My girlfriend's Subaru had all the injectors replaced just at 90k miles. My ex-wife has a RAV4 and got one injector done under warranty.

Yes, 4 out of 4 injectors replaced at 60k miles on my POS 1.5t. $400 for a set of 4 and replaced them myself. What a pain!
I tried cleaning them up while replacing the blown haead gasket - didn't make a difference. Techs indicate they are nearly impossible to clean.
That's why they recommend replacing.
Never going to buy another Honda.

How was your car running? any issues? My 2018 runs great. Dealer says fuel injectors need replacing? I will continue to drive. Seems foolish at 50k miles.

I have 18 accord touring 1.5. At 66k I got check engine light for fuel air mixture in cylinder 2. Ima replace the spark plugs. If issue doesn’t go away I’ll be taking apart the intake manifold and cleaning up all the carbon. Replacing the injectors and gaskets for manifold and throttle body. Basically clean everything and replace the injectors! I’ll be using YouTube to help me guide me through this issue. My car ran ok when I got the light, but now I feel it lose some power and it shakes quite a bit. Idles high to low sometimes! It’s a nightmare getting this issue fixed!

Honda is extending the warranty on fuel injectors. I have had mine replaced twice. The warranty extension covers fuel injectors for 10 years from the original purchase date or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. The extension is due to fuel injectors that may not have been manufactured to proper specifications. This could cause internal wear or clogging in the injectors, or the PCM software may misinterpret sensor inputs.

Hoping to Not have to Go through that , but 1 thing I have always Done on New Vehicles & Every Other Oil Change is Marvel -
Marvel Oil to Wash Out Motor & Add small Amount to Fuel During Cold Spells

I Always Pull Oil Filter on New Motor way Early also : That is How I Broke in Drive_Train & Up in Mountains with Varying Load & Speeds - after 1100 easy Miles . .
OK , so Approx 75 miles in Warmer states , 125 Miles in Colder states - During those Time of Yr or When You Change Comes Up ..
I Add 2 Oz. to Oil to Before , Full Change Out - I say Full as I Skip Oil Filter's to every Other Change as I Running Very Good 15K Filter , but Oil is 6,000 ~ 7,500 Miles . . As the Wash Out - makes Oil Look & Stay
Pristine _ Like Day You Bought Your New Honda . . 2000 Miles more then just Average Change . .( Now If I was Running Mods ) I may tighten that up ..
1 Oz. to 3/4 Tank ~ 1.5 Oz to Full Tank of 87 Octane - I'll Run Better Fuel in Hotter Months . .
Marvel is Especially Good at Cold Starts & Preventing Dry Starts - so it does Wonders for Injectors as Most of Lubricity in Fuel is Gone ..

Had No Issues & Have had No Complaints . .

I Realize on Other Turbo Models - many were all at 8.9 Compression then Moving to DIT only Bumped to 9.1 or 9.5 . .

2.0Turbo @ 9.8 Compression Static & Working Compression could be 18.5 : 1

That said 1.5T is 10.3 Compression , so I'm Thinking - Extra Oil Cooler & Inter~Cooler is Needed . .
Plus some of that Marvel During Very Deep Cold
Marvel Rinse out - Just Before Every Full Change Out or Oil & Filter - would be 100% Cure . . .

I'm Bring this Information Up as being in Machining Industry for 24 yrs & Building Scooters & Other Custom Items ..

Looking at all Calibration Issues with Hardness Checkers & Secondary Vendors Supplying Parts to All Manufacturing Comp. Honda being One of those
Volvo, VW , Other had Issues along same Lines - but - with Other Materials . .

Add that Up with Extra High Working Compression of 1.5T & Stock 10.3 Compression on Turbo Motor .. ( If Everyone Actually ) Reported . .
Exact Miles & Data - Like Fuel Type & Oil Used - all - could be Tracked to Proof Out a Recall to say Group of Injectors - over 2-3 yr. Period ..
Or
Factory Fix seeing this Directly Impact Fuel Burning Standards - which - Leads to Abusive Waste , Early Damages that Normal Consumers should NOT Be Bearing all Cost ..
Like Other's that are Concerned , When I see Injectors on Other Model Cars Going 272,000 Miles & Further . .

ECU's are Covered - those have same Impact on Cleaning Burning as do Injectors , Fuel Pumps Worn out do to softer Cam Lobes - same thing Covered - Direct Connection to Fuel
I just Find It Crazy as to Why Injectors - would NOT be Covered , Clearly a Mechanical Items that has Certain Spec' s ( Earl Failures = Points Directly to Faulty Items )
Only Thin I'm able to think of ( Injector Vendors ) Manufacture way to many Other Parts for World & Honda - ( Everyone's Failed Injectors )
" Should Be Taken Straight to Investigative Inspector "

Where did this extension show up? Never received a notification from Honda, or is it they don't want owners to know? Just Curious.

Sounds like Honda has an issue with fuel injectors. I'm in a 2018 Honda CRV and am on my 2nd set. Honda extended the warranty on them to 150,000. I'm at 145,000 and thought I would keep this car forever, however, if I keep having to replace fuel injectors and pay for them, I'll sell it and get something else. Probably not a Honda.
