Del sol trans issue. No 5th or reverse.
I have a 95 del sol si that was grinding going into every gear. Did some research and figured out the shift fork was bent.(probably) I guess 95 was still aluminum. So I got on marketplace and bought one from a 97 del sol (apparently these come with steel shift forks). My friend helped me take it apart and see the condition of the trans. It looked great, barely any metal, great looking syncros, some nicks in the gears but my friend said it was normal. (It looked great) One thing I wished I had done was row through the gears on the new one either before or after taking it apart. So, I drop the grinding trans and bolt up the "new" one. Get in the car, start it and I don't have 5th and reverse. Shifter goes right but won't go up or down. It feels like there is just a wall blocking it from going into gear, wont even try to move up and down. 1-4 gears work perfect. I don't think I did anything wrong installing the new trans as the rest of the gears work fine. Could we have missed something or did something wrong when we took it apart? Could I have messed something up installing it? Is there anything I can do without dropping it and taking it apart again? I really don't want to put the old trans back in and have 10 hours go to waste. Thanks
