Default Valve adjustment question

How in the hell do you guys correctly adjust you valve lash when you have your cam gears set at X degrees, and you have you head milled Y inches...example I have my cam gears set at +5, +5(cam degrees)...I have a Mugen head gasket which retards the cam timeing ~1.5 degrees, so my net cam gear settings are at +3.5, +3.5...now I'm trying to line everything up for a valve adjustment and it starts to get a little complicated.

So...how do you do a valve adjustment?

Just my thought could be wrong or right, let me know

If everything is properly set up and working with the motor then don't ya just lift the piston to TDC and check the gap?

Ahh yes.

Its easy! I think we sometimes read too much into directions or take them too literal sometimes.

All you have to do is make sure that the lobes for that given piston are not pushing on the valves, ie "lobes up".

Dont even worry about the cam location... just look at the lobes, and ask yourself "Are they up?"

I dont know why I didnt think of that yesterday.
