Default Rear compensator arm and accessing the captive nut

I'm curious as to how this section of the trailing arm system of the rear suspension is attached. The area where the captive nut is located, is it just a welded cup on the chassis to locate it? Any insight into how this is assembled at the factory? Has anyone tried with success another method apart from drilling into this area to remove the nut and bolt, when replacing the lower compensator arm?

Another method for what?
Is yours stuck?
What year and model are you working on?
Have you looked at the FSM?

Why do you need to remove the nut from the assembly? I'd wager the only way would be to cut, and then later reweld.

If the slider is seized and you can no longer adjust it, you can get compensator arms with adjustable end links like Hardrace.

Hey JC - the FSM is the Factory Service Manual - all kinds of good stuff in there, lot of pictures.
I am 5th Gen, so I don't have a manual for '99, but I bet others on here can help you find one.

I'm thinking I'll need clean the nut to put the new bolt in from seeing youtube videos. Possibly cut put the old bolt. My cars pretty rusty exposed to Canadian winters and its going to be a delicate job. If I use an impact gun, loosening the bolt will I destroy the captive nuts mount? I'm trying to figure how it sits in the frame and what holds it place. How does it attach and how does it function?

Ahh I am using the FSM as a gude to all this. Its just that its the PDF copy and some of the image details are a little hard to interpret when you're trying to determine things in the real world.

Good stuff if you are using the FSM.
Rust sucks!
Use the Force (and lots of Kroil/PB Blaster)...

Impact gun would actually probably be better than just using a breaker bar or big socket wrench.

Soak it in penetrating fluid for 10-15 minutes before hand, and then give it another little blast before you zap it off.

Can you zoom out a bit and take a few more pictures from further back?

That second picture is of what looks like an access hole you cut?

I'd cut the view hole and perfect use for induction heater coil. I'd rather save it than bust up the metal all around it. But if it's everything is rusted you'll have to fab it all up.
