Man Puts 1 Million Miles On Accord In 10 Years
Car Was Free Because Of Longevity Of Previous Model

MARYSVILLE, Ohio -- Gordon Bearrs of Ottawa, Kan., figures he's spent $70,000 in gasoline, maintenance and repairs on his Honda Accord.

But he says it was still cheaper than buying a new one. He's got 1 million miles on the car -- and counting.

Bearss and his Accord were guests of honor Sunday at the 20th anniversary of a Honda assembly plant in Marysville. He was also at the plant a decade ago for the 10th anniversary and was given the car for free -- as a reward for putting 615,000 miles on his previous Accord.


The 48-year-old Kansan drives up to 750 miles a day for his job as a document courier.

We had a 4 year old Civic come through the shop with 665,000 miles a few years ago.

 

Four???!? (4)! As in 1998?

 

It was a few years ago. It was a 95 Civic. We checked the history of the car and found it was sold new, four years and two months before from our dealership. That million mile Accord is more impressive though.

is this the greenish/blue 94-95 ex coupe 5-spd? b/c if it is, i saw the same car at hendrick honda(route 1 in woodbridge, va) and it also had over a million miles. the car looked in great shape too, the paint was almost like new. it was on display to improve their current car sales, i guess to show honda's great reliability.

 

good lord, I can't even imagine that. Thats over 450 miles a day, EVERY day for 4 years. over 525 a day if the owner took weekends off.

I put about 700 a week on mine and I thought that was a lot.

 

I have seen tractor trailers with over 3 million miles on them

No, that's a different one... the one at Hendrick had a feature article in the Washington Post Magazine earlier this summer... 1.4x million miles, original exhaust. Hendrick actually bought the car back from the guy... my father met the owner a few years ago when he had 600K miles on it while they were both waiting to have their cars serviced...
