The entire distributors are not Hitachi or Tec... that would just be the ICM's (Ignition Control Module) inside. The housing, and how it bolts to the cylinder head, would be the same no matter which ICM is found inside. Where did you source the distributor from ?

I would find a used OE distributor housing and replace the ICM and Coil, along with the cap and rotor button, and run that.

Ehhhh... not exactly what I meant. EVERYTHING found in the aftermarket ones are suspicious parts... I wouldn't put any of them into a quality rebuild. If you absolutely have to... I wouldn't count on them for very long.

I replaced mine a little over 6 months now with the WAI Global unit that O'Reilly carries and it has been running great. Main reason I went with it, is because they list it being distributed from Hitachi Distributor. I believe all 96-00 USDM HX's came with the Hitachi models and all the others came with TEC. Not sure if there's any significant difference between the two, but I'd rather just go with Hitachi to be safe.

Honda also lists the HX with only part #30100-P2M-A01 (Hitachi D4T94-05) and no TEC model listed for HX.

Prior to buying a new distributor for mine, I tried buying a new cap/rotor from Autozone/O'Reilly's and I kept getting a set that didn't fit even though it was listed for HX. The cap would fit, but rotor would not due to the y5 distributor's thicker shaft.

Link below to the one I got, and I believe RockAuto also has it as well.
