Please help me assess these problems under the hood of this '08
In summary, this car belongs to an elderly family member who will no longer be driving. I may buy it for the wife but am not looking for any short term projects as I'm about do start a big house remodel. The car's clean on the inside and has low miles but has a number of scrapes and dents and two things listed below that concern me. I know for a fact that the driver hit a column in front of her parking space in her underground condo parking lot, and from the looks of things she seriously scraped the underside and chipped a piece off the transmission case by running over a parking barrier or lift gate barrier based on the yellow paint on the hooks used for transporting the vehicles over here.
1). Radiator is sitting low, there's a gap under the upper bracket rubber spacers, and some crude welds on the passenger side lower frame support or shelf. A green X was drawn on 1) some metal frame under the battery, and 2) on top of the radiator, indicating a shop marked 'em to be replaced. I did not see the estimate, but the current owner said she dropped the car off for an estimate and a couple of days later someone from the shop called asking for payment as they had already begun the work without her approval. She got mad, picked up the car and took it elsewhere. The bumper cover was replaced and painted. Other than hearing more wind coming from the front of the car than I am accustomed to, I didn't notice anything wrong with the car while test driving it for some 20+ minutes.
On the radiator, the plastic top is not lined up with the aluminum cooling fins. On my Toyota, they're flush and it's likely the same manufacturer. Interestingly, there's coolant in the radiator and it did not overheat during my test drive on an 80 degree day. Can anyone tell whether the rubber grommets in the radiator brackets are installed properly or upside down?
Can anyone experienced with welding tell me if there's anything seriously wrong with the welds below? If I were to buy the car I'd hit it with some spray paint.
2. The bottom. Note the piece broken off the transmission housing cover. Does anyone know how many hours it takes to replace the cover with a new one, reseal, and fill? Can it be done with the engine in car?
Is it normal for Civics of 2008 vintage to accumulate oil in that seam under the transmission?
Lastly, can someone tell me approximately how long it takes to replace the circled engine mount?
THANK YOU all for any and all help with this, and a safe evening!
