Replace 00 Enginge with Preface Enginge D16Y7
Hello all,
greetings from Germany
I drive a CIVIC EJ6 year 2000 (facelift) D16Y7.
Unfortunately I have an engine failure and can not find a replacement engine.
Therefore, I would like to install a preface enginge from the EJ6 (1996 to 99).
So swap to B18 or similar is currently out of the question. I just want my car to drive again, more power is not important to me.
Unfortunately, you can hardly find facelift exchange Engines here/now, so I wanted to install the preface Engine.
However, there are some differences here, including the emissions standard. The facelift has in my opinion obd2b and the preface has obd2a.
Which cables and parts/ecu do I have to change so that I can install a prefacelift engine in a facelift ej6?
OR which other Engines fits also in the car, without change something big, because i dont want to make a big swap, just want to drive again
Thanks for the help, I hope I have explained everything correctly.

Your wanting to replace the engine but- what engine are you looking at to put in your car that is available to you? Or are you wanting a suggestion of something similar to put in with the least amount of work?
What happened to the original engine though you say it failed.. Did it have catastrophic failure and is not rebuildable?

Hey Max!
Thanks for you reply,
i want to replace a "new" engine instead of my current one.
But i didnt find any facelift D16Y7 here, so i ask if its possible to replace with a preface D16Y7, but there are some differences, but i dont know which....

Well if you can acquire a good long block that comes from somewhere reputable and has some sort of warranty then sure you could use it.
I would just swap over all the outer components of your existing engine onto the new one and if you find differences along the way, make a post about it so we the people on here can possibly help guide you along to get you going again.
Getting the same motor as the existing one should be nearly plug and play.
Still curious as to what happened with your original engine.

OP: my suggestion is to purchase the pre-facelift D16Y7, swap the engine wire harness from your original engine onto it. for any component that does not plug in directly to the harness, swap over from the original engine. The only thing I can remember off the top of my head is the distributor, but there may be others I forget. But I am sure the differences are minor.
If you are familiar with reading wiring schematics, find a copy of the schematic from the factory service manual. it will show the difference between '96-'98 and '99-'00.
