Hello everyone, i need yall's help on something i cant do myself. So i have a 1998 Civic EX S40 B000 transmission, my Dilema is i cant find the Counter Shaft thats 30mm Hex Nut. I went through some forums, ebay, youtube, you name it. and i cant find nothin related for what im lookin for. Im hoping im just an idiot and looking in the wrong places. Worst case im thinkin in re-using that old Hex nut on the CS. Since i need the car running before March 11th. Big Thanks!
It's possible that the part you need is simply not readily available.
Before reusing the old hex nut on your countershaft, it's important to consider a few things. First, the hex nut may have worn down over time, which could affect its performance and potentially cause damage to your transmission.
If you are still unable to find the countershaft hex nut you need, you may want to consider a transmission specialist. They may have access to additional resources and be able to provide guidance on how to resolve the issue.

Well ill be damned! your probably right. Im just dumbfounded how theres plenty of s40, A very common tranny and yet somehow others haven't encountered the issue im dealing right. If they did i wouldnt be posting lol hahahahha fml i guess. I spent like 2hrs going on a loop chasing the mystery 30mm nut. But thank you for advice id appreciate your input. Im going to callin very transmission shop locally, then maybe pay honda a visit and force them to make me a new nut. again ill be damned
Ignore the above. There is no need to replace the nut.
Perfect i will do that, my only thing im concerned is the dmaged area on the nut where it was staked. Do you have any methods to clean or smooth it out?
I was thinkin in grinding down the damaged area and then stake somewhere else( i dont know, tbh). Big thanks!
You're going to end up staking it in the same spot. Run it down by hand and see if it won't catch. If it's not going to work, go to honda and order a new one.
thats the thing, the link you provided states a 22mm. Where as my nut(no pun intended) is 30mm. Ill call the dealership and see whats up. its some bogus stuff
Pro tip: nuts and bolts are sized by the threads not the hex.
i do have a thread measureing tool that ill check once at home. Thank for you for tip, genuinely! Im not that experienced, but im willing to learn. Thanks
The size is M22. The measurement does not relate to the size of the tool to remove it.
Gotcha. My understanding on finding a bolt was by
"head/nut size X thread pitch'. But this is new to me and ill look more into it. Thank you for help, i appreciate it
Yes, definitely check the actual size of the nut, not what socket goes onto it.
I remember having this problem myself
Sometimes i go full idiot mode. Yeah thats what i was doing, going off the measurement from the socket size during removal. Lesson learned, thanks! i appreciate it
Okay so ive manged to do some measurements and its indeed M22×1.25. basically measured the threads on the shaft because i cant measure the inside(diameter) of the nut. And load and behold the shaft size diameter is close to 22MM, probably not the best way to measure circumference but micrometer is all i have atm. So the micro read 21.90MM(CS nut Diameter). Im happy to accept any criticism. But i think i got a better understanding , that at the end im idiot. Big thanks to yall for helping lil ol me out alot truely.
You use the upper (smaller) jaws to measure “inside” dimensions.
.1mm is .0039” so don’t worry. It’s close enough to 22mm.
I was taught to measure bolts perpendicular to the way you are measuring that one. Honestly, I don’t know if it matters, but it does prevent your caliper jaw from sliding into the threads and giving you a false reading.

Thanks caoboy. And yeah your right about measuring. i need better measuring equipment along with some KNOWLEDGE!!! Anyway thank you for your help. im so ready to finish this tranny rebuild. Have a goodone 👍
