H22A Accord Euro R into 6th gen USDM 1998 Accord LX Technical questions
Hi, I am new to the forums but I've been a lurker for a few months. I had some questions regarding my swap project. I recently purchased an H22A Euro R w/T2W4 transmission from the 6th gen JDM Torneo/Accord (The CL1). (not the type s prelude as confirmed by the ECU, otherwise it'd have the P5P ECU). This is an VTEC OBD2B motor complete with the JDM 37820-PCD-014 ECU, an OBD2B ECU. My current engine is the VTEC F23A1 w/P2A8 Manual trans. Most of the info I've searched for or found on the forums is related to swapping this engine into the prelude and/or converting to OBD1. I want to keep my engine OBD2 if possible because I want a daily. My questions are:
1. Can I use the JDM PCD ECU through a conversion harness/modifications as (https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-...stall-3138261/) has suggested and will that pass emissions? (New Mexico)
2. What engine harness will I have to use? The JDM harness had the plugs chopped but I might be able to wire something up to remedy this using pinouts, sanity and my soldering equipment (I have electrical background so I'm not afraid of splicing and all that). Or can I use the F series harness that my car has now. (Info online is mostly related to OBD1/ USDM prelude swaps which come factory with the H22). I don't want to spend 600$ on a harness from Rywire if possible.
3. Assuming I get the JDM ECU working, I know I can't tune it cuz muh OBD2 but is that relevant since it's the stock ECU with the stock engine? I've heard gas related issues related to Japanese gas vs US gas. (highest I can get in NM is 91 octane (altitude of 5-10k feet negates the need for higher octane). I can get higher possibly but it's a daily driver so I don't want only one station to pump 8$ a gallon gas at). Anything else related to the JDM ECU as far as issues go? I've heard possible issues since the JDM accord has electrical steering and I need to keep the USDM power steering, but I'm guess it might throw some codes at me?
4. If I can't use the JDM ECU what is my best option for ECU's? I've heard people use OBD2 to pass emissions and then switch to their better performance ECU's (OBD1) when not getting smogged.
5. Is there anything else I need to know for this swap? I'm rebuilding my engine (good thing too, cause I found one of the ringlands was cracked) but once that's done I need to plop her in hopefully with minimal issues. The lack of data on the swap I want to do is a little frustrating so anything helps me. If some of these are basic questions, I apologize because I'm new to the forum/car work but I'm eager to learn. A lot of stuff I've found online are pooludes and pre 97' (I think a lot of people got the Euro R 97' era engine from the Prelude Type S hence the OBD1 swaps but this motor is an JDM OBD2B Accord engine going in the USDM OBD2A Accord.

Hey yeah, I got it fully going. It was actually pretty simple, since the h22 family is generally in the usdm prelude, people would buy this swap for their preludes, but the euro r is in the jdm accord so it’s actually optimized for the accord. So some challenges were the fuel banjo/line, the usdm is a little far, but I kinda just jimmyed it and GENTLY bent it over a little so it would bolt up. I used the jdm ecu and needed to repin the fuel pump relay wire but that was about it, otherwise plug and play. The wire harness was a mess, I used the usdm harness and used the jdm plugs since the jdm dizzy is weird. I followed a bunch of wire diagrams for the harness and most of the wire colors matched so it wasn’t terrible but it was a lot of splicing and extending. As for hardware the engine mounts were good and so we’re the axels, no issues there. The exhaust didn’t bolt up right bcz prelude exhaust doesn’t go with the accord exhaust so I bought a PLM header and got it welded to a new down pipe etc. oh and I passed emissions , the guy didn’t tailpipe me but he did plug in and there weren’t any issues with codes since I used the jdm ecu. I also did a full engine and transmission rebuild so if you have any more questions lmk, I’m basically an expert on this engine transmission and swap now haha
Here are whatever diagrams I used, some are translated from Russian because the only ecu pin out for the PCD JDM ecu was in Russian, but basically it looks worse than it is, I just repinned the fuel pump relay (no. 15 on plug a) and moved it to the right by one to the empty no .16 slot and that worked. (I'm pretty sure thats what I did, it was one way or the other one ecu had it in one place and one ecu had it in the other place i just swapped it) I do have a note of the dizzy wirings which I’ll include as well, but the jdm dizzy was a 8 pin (97 civic si maybe?). The jdm dizzy that came with the engine was an internal coil and so was the USDM one, so I didn’t have to mess with internal vs external coil. However, the JDM dizzy had the TDC sensor built in, hence the extra 4 pins vs the usdm dizzy which had the tdc by the crank. So I basically had to extend the harness tdc wires up to the 8 pin plug for the dizzy, and from what I remember the colors matched up, but I also attached the notes I took on the wire colors.
I really don’t remember what all happened with the ecu stuff and I think I didn’t end up needing a lot of thes diagrams, I think both ecus were ObD 2 B, so I didn’t have to convert, the only thing I ended up doing was the fuel pump relay repin.
what car do you have and what specific engine are you putting in? I had a world of hell trying to identify mine since most euro r engine info online is about the obd 1 engines
Dizzy stuff

OBD2 A pin out
Another ecu pin?
Euro r ecu
Euro r ecu
Conversion?

Sorry for the late response I didn’t get notification that you replied
thank you very much
im trying to do the swap in a 2001 accord coupe
I haven’t purchased the swap yet I was looking into see if I would be able to do it and what I needed for it
it sounds pretty straightforward.
