Oem vs aftermarket
Hey everyone,
this question relates to D series engines only
I have a '93 del sol si D16z6 and I have to choose between oem or aftermarket header/intake
I have an unbranded cai and header, neither are smog legal here in cali. And then I also have oem header and intake. Is it worth it to go through the trouble of swapping out the intake and exhaust? How much of a power increase would there be?
I've done a bit of research and everyone says don't waste your money modding a d series, no matter what the mod is i/h/e or engine mods. Unless you go turbo.
But since I can choose, is it worth the trouble if I'll only gain like 2hp? Doesn't make sense to me as to why they'd design a restrictive system on an si but I'm open to input
thanks

The oem system is not that restrictive, it's designed to work efficiently with the motor and changing it is not worth the trouble at all... All it's going to do is make the car more louder with VERY minimal gain.. Best bet is just use a K&N air filter in the stock intake box.
How is the oem system that restrictive if you go ahead and change it only to make a hint of power that you'll not even notice, the engine tone may change but it will be all in your head if you think your car is really making power and feeling a difference with your butt dyno..
If your really wanting to change something and make it sound kinda cool like your making power, just do the intake because it can easily be swapped back to oem when you go to do emissions testing.

Okay thank you for your input
I think im just gonna sell the header i have right now then because changing back and forth for little power increase doesn't seem worth it
same with the intake, I'd rather keep everything stock so I don't have to worry about getting a fix it ticket
