Default Wire mess Civic 99 b16

Hi everyone,

I have these wires which are all a mess, I realized vtec was not working after clutch replacement, opened the hood and found this mess.

What do these go to, and what could have happened here? I never noticed any wires just being there..
I hope someone can give me some information.

Thanks in advance

Wires coming from lower part of the car.

2 wires that aren't hooked up, I guess would be connected to the ones coming from the bottom? are they even hooked up the right way?

Lastly... help please!!

The exposed pair of wires in your photo (yellow and green/black trace) are your reverse lights. They should connect to the reverse switch on the transmission. The hacked pair (red/white trace and green/white or black trace) should connect to the ECT plug as seen in your photo. Without this connection, VTEC will NOT work. I would get another plug and splice it to the two wires... and work back from the end to where the wire/shield is not brittle.

And the wire is brittle because it has been soaking in oil. And your forgot a bell housing bolt on that clutch install.

Fix your oil leaks and clean that junk.
