Default D16z6 in 93 honda civic

I have a 1993 honda civic lx, automatic sedan. I want to build and put a d16z6 engine in it. I know I could I swap k or b swap but this would be my first engine swap ever so I’m keeping it a d series. I do want to build it for boost tho. I’ve done research on everything but I wanted to hear from the people that have done it or know more and can share information.

The automatic transmission cannot handle much power... so boosting this car is a bad idea unless you swap to a manual transmission. If you want to make bigger power, I suggest you leave the auto car alone and drive it daily... then find a manual Civic and build that one.

Agree with Jim here - either manual swap it or buy a manual Civic to build.

I've built a D-series for boost, and in the Forced Induction section of this forum, I have a thread on my build. There are also other D-series build threads in there. I recommend you go read through them to add to your research.

I'll be happy to answer any specific questions you have, but you didn't ask anything specific in your post.

sorry I did mean to say I was going to get a manual transmission with it, but I would build it outside of the car to minimize downtime. Plus the engine in my car works perfectly fine. More specifically I wanted some more information on the wiring side of things. I want to put a cluster for a manual car. And for boost I just want a fun car to drive that has a kick when I want it to. I was thinking of 400 but I would be fine with 300-350 hp. I want to know the parts/steps needed to do so. Mostly to check my research and do it right the first time.

Start researching then. In all likelihood any questions you have, have been answered 50x on numerous forums including Honda-tech.

You can search in the top right as well.

Note that almost anyone here would discourage you from starting a D series build in 2022. Even as far as "ease of swap", a K series engine or even a B by comparison is by far the better and more cost effective choice. Combined with the fact you're going manual. K swap is typically what I advise most people towards now unless they're already invested in parts for the D/B series platform. If you're starting from ground 0, K is easily the route that makes the most sense these days.

There is no wiring needed for the manual cluster swap - simply remove the auto cluster, plug in the manual cluster, and you're good to go. The tach wiring is already in place.

For a fun kick, I recommend shooting for 200-300 whp, depending on budget. You can probably achieve 200 whp with a stock bottom end if you're on a really tight budget, but I wouldn't go much more than that on stock rods. Get a small ball bearing turbocharger like a T28 or straight T3 and it will spool very fast and be very fun. 400 hp is a lot for a street car - you'll probably end up turning it down so you have traction. Spinning isn't fun. Again, not trying to toot my own horn, but my thread in the Forced Induction section is very detailed and outlines my D-series street car build. If you search that forum for "single cam", "D16Z6", "D16Y8", and "D-series", you'll find several build threads, with many of them also listing parts and steps.
