Now before anyone jumps down my throat about how this info is out there, I’ve been searching for it for a few weeks now and can’t seem to find any answer.
I have a 97 del sol si with a d16y8, I have a b16a3 out of a 95 del sol vtec that I’m going to put in my 97. I have everything for the swap and I mean everything. Axles, mounts, alternator, ps pump, ac compressor, shift linkage, ewh, ecu, ect. My issue is that the motor came out of a obd1 del sol and is being installed into a obd2 del sol. I’m trying to figure out what will need to be changed in the wiring to make this work. I already have a obd1 to obd2 conversion plug for the ecu to plug into the harness inside the car. Is this just plug and play or do I need to do some mods to the harness?
I wish I could help you.... but contact these guys. they know everything about Honda hotrods, swaps et.... PFI Speed https://www.youtube.com/c/PFISpeedtube

Does your '97 D16Y8 engine harness plug into both shock towers like your '95 B16A3 engine harness does ? If so, you may be able to simply plug it into the chassis at both shock towers and send it. However, if the '97 engine harness only connects at the driver's side shock tower and passes all of the way through the firewall into the cockpit terminating with ECU plugs at the end... then you MUST use the D16Y8 engine harness and modify it as needed to accommodate the parts/sensors on your '95 B16A3 engine.
only problem is there is tons of info about obd2 to obd1 conversion on civics and 95 and older del sols but no info on the 96 and 97 del sol swap to obd1

ok so I checked and I do have engine harness plugging into both shock towers just like the obd1 b16a3 was on the 95 del sol. So I should be good to drop the engine in and it plug and play with my obd2 to obd1 conversion plug?

I cannot guarantee that all wiring alignment is correct at the shock tower engine harness and chassis harness locations, but there is a good chance that it will work. If it works, it would essentially be a "plug-n-play" affair since you have the B16A3 engine harness. Plugging in the OBD-2A -> OBD-1 ECU adapter harness and the '95 P30 ECU should get things running. Make sure you use a fuel feed line between the fuel filter and B16A3 fuel rail that comes from an OBD-1 engine application.

Because it's basically the same thing. If I remember correctly, the Del Sol kind of followed the Integra with the OBD2 change in '96. So it's wired up more like a 92-95 Civic where the 96 got a new harness without the shock tower plugs. Your previous post confirms this.
What are your plans for the car? Are you going to swap in the B16 and leave it stock, or do you plan on adding more to the engine and tuning? Will the car have to pass an emissions inspection? You have a couple of options here.
- If you have the OBD1 harness, the only thing that should be missing for OBD2 would be the CKF lines. Should be easy to add in, I'm pretty positive this is the only pin change but you'll need to compare diagrams and confirm on your own.
- Rework the Y8 harness you already have, if it's in good shape. D series and B series engines use different CKF sensors, and the IAT sensor is in a different location. Those are the main two mods you will need to make.
- If you need emissions inspection, you'll want to plan it so you can maintain an OBD2 ecu in the car. Finding an OBD2A P30 ecu is likely gonna be a bitch, or at least expensive.

just planning on getting the stock engine in and running, down the road I may build it for boost but the goal is to have a stock swap so I don’t loose my daily for more than a day or two. The only issue with the post about integras is that most obd2 cars with the b16 have the engine harness that goes through the firewall all the way to the computer. All del sols have shock tower plugs for the engine harness. So unless someone has put a del sol obd1 b16 into a obd2 del sol and posted about it, there is no good info out there. My thought was to just get the obd2 engine harness and matching ecu then change all accessories to obd2 and it would be like stock. But trying to find the ecu and harness is hard or super expensive. Once I get this swap in and figured out I will definitely be writing up a info on this swap.
Ok everyone finally got the swap installed. Decided to just do it and see what happens. I installed the b16a3 out of a 94 del sol vtec into my 97 del sol si. Harness plugged up to shock tower plugs with one 2 wire plug on passenger side not used with the b16 harness. Used an ecu jumper to use the obd1 computer that came with the engine from the 94 del sol. Everything seems to be working great. Moral of the story is that a obd1 b16a3 out of a del sol vtec is plug and play in a obd2 96/97 del sol when you use an ecu jumper. Out with the D16y8 In with the b16a3
Isn't it nice when a swap is an easy "Plug-n-Play" affair ?!? Then again, I believe I suggested this should be the case late last year assuming you had the right parts.

I just wanted to make sure so my daily/only car wasn’t down for more then a weekend. I since have bought another 2 cars so now it didn’t matter if it was down for a whole week. Haven’t drove it yet, waiting on some mtf. Hopefully it runs flawlessly under load. We will see.
