fiberglass isn't too hard to work with, but the materials and time would be quite a bit. Hardest part would be making a mold of your hood to put the fiberglass in, but even that's not extremely hard. Practice making something small, and you may find it's something you want to give a shot at yourself

How hard is it to paint CF? My Accord hood is pretty jacked and I was thinking that once I get the money for one that I would get a CF hood and paint it. I have seen a few done but just looking to see how much troulbe it may or may not be.

Ditto, the body shop asked me if I wanted to paint mine when I got the new paint job, but I told them if they touched the hood they would die, lol. I prefer the CF look, but yeah, if you're not all about that, then you could have it painted to match the rest of the car.

again, my car is black, i thing the cf would look good, but im about function over form, so if i could get a light wieght hood for a lot cheaper, and spend the money on something else, like more turbo stuff then it would be worth it to me...if not ill just wait around for a killer deal on one

I know your car is black, and I personally don't think it looks as good as you think it does. My buddy had a CF hood on his black Del Sol. He put his stock one on because the CF look didn't look right on solid black, it looked like a two toned hood. Yeah you could argue that for any color car, but on white or red cars, for example, it stands out purposely and gives it a fairly aggressive look. That's just my 2 cents and that's why I suggested it.

Edit: BTW, for the price you pay for a painted CF hood these days, it would probably be pretty damn close to the price you pay for a custom fiberglass hood painted. You won't be saving that much money, if any...

The hood was lighter than his paint, but his paint isn't that great, it's almost 9 years old. It's original Honda paint also. Since you have jet black, the hood will definitely be lighter in color, because they aren't exactly black, the weave under the clear coat looks more silver-greyish, with some black. It depends on the lighting outside though--mine looks grey on cloudy days, black on sunny days, etc...

i think CF hoods look pretty shitty on black cars, i would definitely get it painted if you get one (although that might defeat your purpose of looking for something cheap)

Like you said, unless you find a killer deal, I'd personally pass on the hood for now and just spend it on other things. If you say you're about function over form, a CF/fiber hood would be near worthless to you. You're not saving THAT much weight. 30lbs or less isn't worth a $300 hood. The only other functional benefit that I can even just pull out of my *** is you MIGHT get a fraction or so more cooling. Otherwise, CF or fiberglass is more of a cosmetic upgrade. I only have one on mine because someone backed into my car so I got a CF hood curtosey of his insurance. Get one if you're really serious about weight savings and your interior is completely stripped to the bone. Save up for your turbo!

You're not saving THAT much weight. 30lbs
But 30 lbs, is 30 lbs lost to a pig like the lude..
Take the a/c out, and the front and rear bumper supports and you will shave over 100 lbs..
My lude weighs 2760 now and I havent takein out my bumper supports(about 45 lbs total front and rear) give me a C/F hood (minus 30 lbs)
And my car will weigh 2685 LBS without me.IMHO

I used to have a 98 base lude. that's bad-*** though that you boosted your car. i never got around to ever doing it. I want to get the JRSC and then swap out and get the 9psi pulley for it but that never happened because i totalled it racing down the highway. and that satin silver i think is the cleanest color for a lude.

Are fiber hoods not paintable? Personally i like my body parts to match in color unless its part of a special color scheme..

Oh, and as for boosting.. Turbos are a gift from the heavens, enjoy it.. there is no replacement For displacement..... EXCEPT BOOST!!!!
