Half shaft seal replacement
I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong but I’m trying to replace the half shaft seal. The plate that holds the half shaft won’t go past either the alternator or something near there so I can’t take the half shaft seal out all the way. Any ideas?
I forget that you are in Canada TomCat39 ... and obviously, there are trim levels and nomenclature that differ from your side of the Border and mine.

If you knocked the spring off of the inside of the seal it will not seal. I also like to put a little petroleum jelly and then some Molyslip multi-purpose grease in the lip before installing the shaft. It is also possible to cut the lip with the splines of the shaft if you are not careful. I've never done that but I have heard of it happening. Usually can take a little abuse but I'm still pretty careful when putting the shaft into the seal.

Once you have the three bolts out that hold the midshaft to the block, fold the bracket down toward the oil pan and then you can slide it out below/past the alternator. Once the shaft is out of the way, you can remove and replace the axle seal.
