Default AC went out in sunny Arizona

Hello everyone, first time posting on honda tech so if I posted this wrong place please let me know. The other day I went to start my car on with the AC turned on and for a couple seconds car ran as normal until the rpm started jumping between 1000 and 1500 every second in nuetral and I felt the AC getting warmer. When I turned off the AC the car ran as normal. I went to drive it two days later and the rpm no longer surges with the AC on but my AC just doesn't blow cold anymore. Also CEL is not on. Anyone know what it could be

Sounds like your compressor died.

damn, could there have been something that caused it to die. Would hate to replace it only to have it go out again. Also thank you for the reply!

If it's the original compressor of the car, then it was likely just general age and wear/tear (plus this insane heat we've had all summer...). You can use a multimeter to test power at the compressor, otherwise you should be able to visually see if the clutch is engaging on the compressor if you have someone else hit the AC button in the car while you're looking at it with a light.

Make sure when you get the new compressor installed you get it loaded properly with freon. Don't try to use those cans they sell at auto parts stores, they're crap.
