Trying to Figure Out My EM1's Theft History
Hello Y'all,
So a year or two ago I stumbled upon this damn near perfect (all matching vins, trans, cluster, like new undercarriage etc..) FBP EM1 for $4500. It was fully built and boosted but the guy thought the motor was blown, but I knew instantly it was just the valve seals. (he was running no catch can or breather of any sort). Long story short, I pulled the motor (not a fan of boost) as I already had a B16B swap sitting in my garage that I wanted a shell for. My insta is @pnw_em1 if anyone is interested in seeing the car.
So I'm doing a slow refresh of the car with new OEM parts and what not, and I decided to check out why the title was salvaged. So I pulled a Autocheck report and it showed all the normal stuff until a Theft in Lakewood CA in 2004 with 87k (now sits at 133k). I was told about the title before I bought it obviously, but the guy I bought it from didn't know any of the details. Does anyone know if you can track down what was exactly stolen from the car? From what I noticed, everything important was still there. The car was never stripped and the original engine and trans were there. Did they salvage a title back then for lip or seat theft?
I'm curious of the exact details. I do have the theft report number and date.
any input will help, thanks!

A stolen and recovered car would only be issued a salvage title if:
A: The car was insured at the time, and the damage resulting from the theft exceeded 80% of the cars actual cash value (ACV), or
B: The car was missing long enough that the claim was paid out by insurance. Upon recovery in either of the above cases, the car would be sent to an insurance salvage auction (Copart, IAA, Adesa, etc.).
C: The car is uninsured or only insured for liability, and the owner decided to junk the car once recovered, or never picked up the car from impound (where the police would tow upon locating it).

thanks, yea it was gone for what looks to be exactly one month. Which is when they pay out I believe, if it’snot found by then. I assume this is probablyyyy what happened then.
