Car died mid drive, crank no start, AND no power to windows at the same time?
1995 Si D16Z6 engine. The no start is one thing, I know spark, fuel, air, and timing- but WITH no window power, only the windows? thats what is really throwing me off as a novice DIY'er
Order of events leading up to the problem:
-I go to a unfamiliar gas station, the pump was stopping every 3 seconds (even though I was near empty) which I thought was weird. Premium gas. I gave up just thinking it was a bad pump after a few tries but managed to get $20 worth of gas in.
- About 2 blocks away Im going down hill braking in 3rd gear. I hear something in the car do a power down whine sound, it was subtle but it stood out to me. It sounded like the sound was in the rear of the car. But it could have been the aftermarket amp that is installed in the trunk. But that sound came with me losing all power immediately, RPMs fell to 0 and Im dead in the water. It was as if I got EMP'd
-Tried to start the car and its cranking healthy but not turning over
-Power windows also stopped working, but my hazards at the time were.
Misc info:
-Other electronics work fine in the car
- When you turn the key to the on position I can hear the 2-3sec hum of something priming in the front of the car, its a normal sound I'm familiar with
-Engine light is not on
-Car has an automatic starter/anti theft system previous owner installed that I think is worth noting.
-aftermarket amp installed in truck and subwoofer between the seats
My personal impression (experience only being years ago working on my 80's honda bike):
-Some kind of solenoid/ relay connected to the battery? Thought being it has to be something close to the core of the car's power for the entire thing to cut out. But electrical can be a tricky SOB.
-Pump problem is a weird one, but dont see how it can be connected to an electrical problem but just in case I noted it. also just in case NO I DIDNT USE DEISEL I have nightmares about that lmao
TLDR;
. Car was running perfectly and with no warning it was like a got EMP'd and had to coast to a stop. Then the car refused to turn over but has a healthy crank, AND all the electrics work except all 3 power windows. When I turn the key to power on you can hear the regular hum of something priming in the front of the car, and the dash lights are fine. No engine light.

Can you check if the fuel pump is still priming when you turn the key? Sounds like something in that station's gas may have killed the pump.
I'd recommend draining your fuel tank as well to get that gas out.

Appreciate the swift reply. i hear a 2-3sec hum when I turn the key to ON, is that the sound of the fuel priming. I can hear it in front of me though, I hear no sound from behind. Also, if the pump was bad, how could that connect to the windows being out?
The windows being out may or may not be related, I wouldn't count out the possibility it's a red herring. Have you checked your fuse box for anything that's blown?
not yet- dont have access to the car for a few days (house sitting). But that would be an easy gander. Is a car dying out abruptly something we thing could create a blown fuse? Would spraying gas into the engine be a way to confirm fuel pump? Ive also heard main relay could be a problem, which is cheaper and more accessible
