96 Del Sol idle issues
I’ve read some other idle issue forms and tried trouble shooting so thought I’d ask about mine before taking it to a mechanic. The car runs great when giving it gas and going down the road. When ever I come to a stop the idle drops down to 200-300 and the car will stall if I don’t hold the break and give it a bit of gas.
What I’ve ruled out is: 30K miles ago the timing belt, plugs, wires, distributor cap etc was all replaced. Basically a full tune up. Just this week I finally cleared a CEL for a purge valve and I also replaced the IACV with a OEM one as well as throughly cleaned the throttle body before putting it all back in.
The only other thing I haven’t done is checked for vacuum leaks because honestly I’m not sure what all vacuum lines I should try spraying with break cleaner. If anyone has other ideas besides checking for a vacuum leak please say so! I don’t want to mess with the idle screw because up until two weeks ago this wasn’t an issue so that tells me there is an issue that would be just covered up by adjusting the idle. Thoughts??

The lower the idle, the less air, so I might rule out a vacuum leak. Could also have a low idle from too much fuel. I'm not sure how ignition timing plays into idle, but I would definitely check that. I would also pop the valve cover and verify the cam timing is correct after the timing belt change.
