2016 Odyssey Maintenance Minder 4 water pump replacement
I have a 2016 Odyssey that is still under the Honda plus 7/200km extended warranty. I recently went in for a maintenance minder 4 (spark plugs, timing belt/tensioner, inspect valve clearance and inspect water pump.
When I picked up the van I noticed that I was charge (parts) for a replacement water pump. When I asked I was told that they do it as a precaution and since since it is "maintenance" it isn't covered under warranty (which it clearly is on the warranty documentation). The service departments answer was that they are doing me a favor by doing it now and not having the original pump fail a few years down the road.
I asked what will happen if before my 7/200 is up the water pump were to fail since they classified it as a "maintenance" part. Their response was that the extended warranty would cover it.
Am I an ******* for not wanting to pay for a part that should be covered under warranty just because they thought they are helping me out?

$150 part to keep you from needing a tow or second visit to the dealership sounds like a great deal.
Dumb the service contract doesn't cover the water pump as that is always replaced with a timing belt on these.
Did they actually inspect the valve lash? Is there a charge on there for valve cover gaskets and intake manifold gasket?

The extended warranty was 7/200km. Approximate warranty extension calculated: 2016 model plus 7 year would be 2023.
The vehicle was brought in for service (e.g., spark plugs, timing belt/tensioner replacement).
Generally, the water pump replacement is highly recommended when the timing belt is replaced, since the water pump is located behind the belt.
If they didn't replace the water pump and it failed after the extended warranty is over in 2023 (approximately 1 year from now), then you would be essentially paying for the labor for a timing belt removal again in addition to the water pump. As previously stated, the timing belt is removed to access the water pump.
Right now, sounds like you just paid for the costs of the part for the water pump and will probably last significantly longer past the end of the extended warranty 1 year from now.
This video shows a timing belt and water pump removal.
