Civic 1998 condenser fan turning on with ignition on and Ac switch on
Hi
is it a normal behavior of condenser fan that if I only turn on ignition and switch on aC button, the condenser fan starts running even the car isn't started yet and no clutch engaged. As you know the AC engages after few seconds of startup even if the switch of AC is on.

Which I always thought was weird since the water pump isn't cycling the cool fluid into the engine. Probably just helps lower the pressure in the system.

excellent point! I've thought that as well, usually when the engine cooling fan turns on I just start the engine to get the coolant flowing, after a couple of seconds the fan turns off. That happens if I pull into a parking lot and don't realize the cooling fan was on. It's the little things that help it last longer, nothing worse than a nasty heat soak. Maybe I'm doing over kill but makes me feel more comfortable that I'm trying to extend the engine's life!
I also think it shows the simplistic circuit that our civics have.. but they were designed 20+ years ago on a budget!
Re: Civic 1998 condenser fan turning on with ignition on and Ac switch on
Hey guys first time poster long time reader. I've been battling as issue for some time now, when the Ac is on the condenser fan doesn't turn on. However, it turns on normally when I connect it directly to the battery. I've checked every single fuse, relay and connector related to the Ac system and everything is perfectly fine. More info on the car, it's a one owner, bone stock, unmolested 1998 Honda Civic LEV. So there's no rats nest of wires, no shorts, no bad relays nothing. When I turn the AC on, unplug the fan connector and use my multimeter I am getting 14.2 volts at the plug. So it is getting the voltage but it still refuses to come on. I'm pretty much stumped. I'm trying not to replace the fan because it works. I'm not sure what to do anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
