Default D16y5 block with d16z6 head

So I plan on putting a y5 in my 97 lx civic with a z6 head I have the p28, distributor and proper jumpers for the head as I've had this head in my car before on a y8 but I need to know what head gasket, head bolts, timing belt and other parts I need to put this z6 head on a y5 also will my y7 crank pulley work on the y5 cause the y5 doesn't have one and I'm not doing this for a power gain my y7 burns almost a gallon of oil a week and it's on its last leg so I'm just doing this as a temporary thing thanks in advance everyone and I hope all your hondas live forever <3

Headgasket: Supertech Performance lists the same head gasket for a D16Y5 and D16Z6, so you could use one of theirs.

Headbolts: As far as I know the D16Y5 block is the same as the D16Y7 ( just pistons are different) so you could use lightnening Motorsports kit for the D16Y7/D16Z6: https://www.lightningmotorsports.com...d-only-mini-me

Timing belt: Not sure, you could count the teeth on your old D16Y5 one, and compare it to a 104 tooth D16Z6 belt. The Y7 block with Z6 head needs a 104 tooth, but I don’t know how many teeth the Y5 has.

I think the Y7 pulley will work on your Y5, but the issue is you’re trying to use OBD 1. My understanding is that you match the crankshaft pulley with the OBD being used, but I think the only thing that differs is the timing marks on them, one has 16* BTDC and the other 12* BTDC, so you could probably use the OBD2 one on your OBD1 set up and estimate the 4 degree difference when you’re using your timing light. You might be able to make your own notches/marks on it so you know about where your timing needs to be.

OBD1 is 16 degrees and OBD2 is 12 degrees, so you can make the crankshaft pulley work. And if you mean the crank gear that goes on the crankshaft about then, yeah, a Y7 one works on your Y5.

If you figure out the timing belt issue, update this thread.

Thanks for the feedback I really do appreciate it but I do apologize for just leaving the thread here I got tired of checking the post after so long of no replies I bit the bullet and just kept buying parts until everything was working I ended up getting everything figured out and the y5/z6 runs great I'm still missing the y8 injectors but my y7 injectors are doing fine for now I'll be buying the bigger injectors in a couple of weeks

For anyone that needs to do this combination the parts I used are d16y5 block, d16z6 head, d16y8 timing belt and head gasket, unmodified d16y7 harmonic balancer/ crank pulley, d16y5/y7/y8 head bolts (only nine are used) , d16z6 head bolts (only one used on vtec solenoid corner) , d16z6 distributor with obd1-obd2a jumper harness from ebay (like $12) , p28 ecu for the d16z6 with obd1-obd2a jumper from Ebay. If your car doesn't rev over 3k rpm full throttle but it will if you slowly give it throttle swap the plugs on tps and map sensor I ran into that problem when I did a y8 block z6 head I will be checking this thread every few months to see if anyone needs more info on this combination also to wire in vtec for an obd1 motor inside an obd2 car just follow the diagrams for the obd2 ecu because the obd1-obd2 ecu jumper harness from ebay already has vtec wired in there just isn't any wires running to those pins on the obd2 non vtec engine harness.. enjoy your swap and let that z6 head scream

I updated the thread with all the parts used as for timing I ignored everything I know and just put head and block both in tdc then sent it and put it all together I'm having no issues with my timing being setup this way it runs perfectly
